DoorDash's ambition is to deliver everything local globally!

Tech Lead

  • Led the development of CMM, a system pioneered at measuring consistency performance of online data stores from Clients’ perspectives. The system monitors 20 billion reads per second generated from FB’s social graph stores.
  • Led the development of Polaris, a standardized framework at FB to measure correctness invariants of various services. This framework measures the permanent consistency of the world’s largest cache system.

FB's mission is to better connect everyone on this planet. I led efforts to build systems to handle millions of requests per second to support the FB's family of apps.

Senior Software Engineer

  • Developed Abacus 2.0, a complete overhaul of Klaviyo’s ingestion model, read API and database schema. This new generation of streaming microservice is able to run 10 times faster than its predecessor.
  • Developed migration service to migrate 4 petabytes of data to the new schema.
  • Scaled the legcay event pipeline, of which the throughput was 500 events per second, to be able to handle 150,000 events per second (3 million database writes per second). This new system is not only able to handle 300x traffic but also can be readily scaled horizontally.

Klaviyo is a marketing platform that helps businesses own their marketing. I sit on the event team that is in charge of ingesting event payloads from various sources and process them in real time.

Software Engineer

  • Developed Abacus 1.0 using Apache Flink, a modern streaming micro service, to replace Klaviyo's legacy ingestion pipeline. Abacus processed 1.5 billion events smoothly on Cyber Monday alone.
  • Developed Klaviyo's first Kafka microservice, which is now handling billions of ingress/egress traffic everyday.
  • Maintained various core data stores including Mysql, Cassandra and caching layers including Redis, Memcache.
  • Refactored legacy ingestion pipeline code using a fully OOP design. The refactored pipeline is much more readable, reusable and extendable.

Life

"Reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions.”

― David Hume

Chinese food is superior

Yes. I said it. Chinese food is simply the best. This is 腰果鹅肝. Gongbao style Foie gras. I had this dish back in Chengdu and was blown away by the svaory of the taste and declicaicies of the texture.

Bamboo BBQ

Indeed, This dish does not look fancy first glance but it is both creative and tasty. I made this back in China in the suburbs (we made sure to be safe with fires). We put marinated meat and fresh veggie into the bamboo and bbq it. The refreshing fragrance of the bamboo is mixed into the meat during the BBQ. After 10 min, one can cut the bamboo and enjoy the dish.

3-star michelin Epicure

Yeah, I spent a few thousands dollars to expeirence the fancy 3-star french restaurant. Epicure @ Paris is the first 3-star michelin restaurant in the world. It's definitly an interesting experience. But I have to say, the food is .... ok.

Bluff Trail @ CA

This is the bluff trail near Santa Monica. I hiked there for 3 hours. Such a nice view.

Paris

I took this picture during a morning run at Paris.

Yosemite

Will defnitely go back to Yosemite in the future for my hikes!

Bad Blood

Still reading this book. Quite an interesting read so far.

城门开

城门开(The openning of the castle gate) is a book by Beidao. It documents the author's reflection on mordern society and change of Beijing. I enjoyed the book a lot.
